Eye of the Beholder 3 is a single-player role-playing dungeon crawl video game, released in 1993 for MS-DOS and later for other platforms. It is a blobber with real-time first-person gameplay and imaginative monsters.
The player controls a team of four heroes that, by the way, can be increased up to 6 by resurrecting skeletons from dead NPC, and navigate the 3D labyrinth with first-person view. Eye of the Beholder was conceived as Dungeons & Dragons meets Dungeon Master, that's why these games look very similar.
According to the scenario, a team of brave adventurers explore dungeons underneath the Forgotten Realms city of Waterdeep to investigate an evil coming from beneath the city. They fight hordes of monsters going to the lair of the beholder, Xanathar. The game has 13 levels.
Dungeon crawler Eye of the Beholder has two sequels: The Legend of Darkmoon and Assault on Myth Drannor.
The Legend of Darkmoon is the sequel to first-person RPG Eye of the Beholder, released in 1991. For the first time in a D&D game the game starts with an animated cutscene.
Archmage of Waterdeep send the team of heroes to rescue the disappeared scout and to continue the investigation of evil brewing in a Temple Darkmoon. To define a new team the player can choose each character's race and sex, their profession and their alignment, lawful, neutral or chaotic, good or evil.
Assault on Myth Drannor is the sequel to the role-playing game Eye of the Beholder, released in 1993. It was built on the great foundation of the previous game. In this game the heroes have to save the ruined city, Myth Drannor, which is ruled by a Lich named Acwellan. The areas of Eye of the Beholder III consist of the mausoleum, the city ruins and the forest.
